Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary. The transliteration of the unpublished fragment Bo 6741 is included by kind permission of Cem Karasu. The transliteration of the unpublished fragment Bo 7225 is included by kind permission of Savaş Özkan Savaş. The unpublished fragment Bo 8885 is not included in the transliteration; it will be published by Yasemin Arıkan.

B1 i 27′ / A1 i 39′: on Hittite gurzipant- add to the literature cited in Cammarosano 2018: 463 Beckman 1995: 29 fn. 19.

A1 iv 30′: Correct Cammarosano 2018: 461 and translate D10 LÍL as “Storm god of the Countryside,” not “Ištar of the Countryside.”

A1 iv 36′: The form “EGI]R-an tar-nu-u-wa-i,” previously considered a mistaken Hittite form (Cammarosano 2018: 469-70), is to be interpreted instead as regular Luwian āppan tarnuwai “shall release,” a Heischefutur equivalent to Hittite āppan tarnumaš “to be released,” a formula which is sometimes found in colophons of cult inventories and other texts (kindly communicated by C. Melchert). For the leveling of the irregular paradigm of tarna- as tarnuwa-, compare tūwa- “to put.”
